Lofts at Mercer Landing
The Lofts at Mercer Landing, located on Mercer University Drive across from Five Star Stadium and the main campus entrance, features loft-style apartments for 313 undergraduate students. This complex also includes 14,000 square feet of first-floor space for University offices and a 400-car parking deck, as well as amenities for residents such as fitness, cardio and yoga rooms, club room, media room, game room, study rooms and a rooftop terrace for special events. A new 100-room Marriott-branded hotel and several restaurants are located on the block adjacent to The Lofts at Mercer Landing. A new pedestrian bridge spanning Mercer University Drive connects the new development to campus and forms a gateway from Interstate 75 to downtown Macon along the new Second Street Connector.
The Story of Mercer’s Signature Pedestrian Bridge
The University, Macon-Bibb County government and Sierra Development partnered last year to link the new Mercer Landing student housing/office/hotel/retail development across Mercer University Drive from Five Star Stadium with the campus through a “signature” pedestrian bridge. Since it opened last August, the bridge — which features a state-of-the-art LED lighting system — has become an iconic structure on campus. A new tradition of lighting the bridge orange when Mercer athletic teams win or when the University celebrates other notable achievements has emerged over the last few months. In fact, there’s now a hashtag on social media that has become a Mercer victory cry — #lightthebridge. The campus marked the women’s basketball team’s conference championship on Feb. 25 with an animated light show on the bridge. This short video produced by Piedmont Construction, the contractor on the project, tells the story of how the bridge came about and chronicles its installation.
